Asked & answered.
The questions our front desk hears every week — gel, scalp, lash, parking, the works. Still curious? Call (650) 386-6904 or stop by 860 Villa St.
Why is L2 Nail Salon gel-only? Don't acrylic and dip powder last longer? +
Gel wears just as long as acrylic — usually three to four weeks for a full Gel-X set — without the harsh MMA / EMA monomer vapors acrylic relies on. Those fumes aren't great for the technician's lungs or your studio air. We've also seen too many clients arrive with thinned, brittle nail beds from years of acrylic, and gel is the gentler answer. So no exceptions — gel only.
My nails are weak after years of acrylic. Can I still get Gel-X? +
Yes, and Gel-X is often the easiest way to recover. The pre-formed soft-gel tip bonds with curing gel directly to the natural nail without aggressive filing or drilling. Pair it with our Hard / Builder Gel add-on (+$20) for extra reinforcement and your nails grow out stronger underneath. Most clients see a meaningful difference after two sets.
Will eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes? +
Not when they're properly mapped. Damage almost always comes from too-long, too-thick extensions glued onto a single natural lash that can't carry the weight. Heather custom-maps every set to your eye shape and natural lash thickness, isolates each lash one at a time, and uses the lightest fiber that gives the look you want. We'll talk you out of going bigger if your lashes can't carry it.
How often do I need to refill a Gel-X full set? +
Most clients refill every two to three weeks. Past the third week the lift becomes more visible and the price reflects the extra rebuild time — $79 for a 2-week refill, $99 by week three. We don't push you to come back sooner than your nails actually need.
What's different about a 90-minute scalp treatment vs. a deep-condition at any salon? +
A regular salon shampoo cleans the hair shaft. Our 90-minute Anti-Aging & Hair Growth ritual works on the scalp itself — the skin, follicles and microbiome — using prescription-grade Kérastase, Milbon and Leonor Greyl lines, LED red infrared light therapy for circulation, and an anti-aging growth serum. It's closer to a dermatology session than a wash-and-blow.
Can scalp treatment really help with postpartum hair loss? +
Our 90-minute ritual is built specifically for thinning and shedding, including postpartum. The LED red infrared therapy stimulates follicle activity, the growth serum supports the regrowth phase, and the deep cleanse clears the buildup that suffocates emerging hairs. We see strong results around the four-to-six-session mark — which is why our 5-Session Package exists.
Will I leave smelling like a nail salon? +
That's the upside of gel-only. Acrylic produces strong monomer fumes that cling to hair and clothes — gel is essentially odorless. The studio is cross-ventilated, and the scalp suite sits on the opposite side of the floor from the nail bar, so neither service intrudes on the other.
Do you take walk-ins? +
We're appointment-first. Each chair is reserved for a single client at a time so the room stays calm and the technician can focus. If a same-day slot opens up we'll happily take you, but please call (650) 386-6904 to check first — Saturday afternoons almost never have one.
What's the cat-eye gel finish on your menu? +
Cat-eye gel contains microscopic magnetic flakes. The technician runs a small magnet across the wet gel before curing it, pulling the flakes into a luminous cat's-eye shimmer that shifts with the light. It's a single-coat statement finish — no full nail art needed — available on both manicures and pedicures.
Where do I park? 860 Villa Street can look busy. +
Mountain View has free 2-hour street parking on Villa, and the city's California Street parking structure is one block away with the first two hours free. We recommend the structure for 90-minute and longer rituals, since the street limit will hit halfway through your appointment.
